From Hurt to Healing:
Supporting Children from Fractured Families

Presented by: Family Enrichment Services
Virtual on Teams

Children involved in the Florida foster care system represent an especially vulnerable and under-served population. It’s also a large population, with 21,000 children in Florida’s foster care system in 2023. These children not only carry trauma from experiences prior to removal, but also trauma around the removal itself and numerous other losses that come with being in the foster care system. This training explores the unique needs of children in or impacted by the foster care system including the impact on child functioning and behavior as well as what these children need from caregivers and providers in order to heal.

Learning Objectives

  • Develop an understanding of the impact removing a child from their parent/caregiver has on the child’s development and behavior

  • Develop an understanding about how the lack of permanency in the foster care system can negatively impact child functioning

  • Develop an understanding of trauma-based behavior in this population of children

  • Develop an understanding of what children with trauma-based behaviors need from caregivers and providers in order to heal
